Imagine IPsphereGREEN

Imagine a world where air travel was almost purely for pleasure – where planes were full of holidaymakers and people visiting friends and family, and business travelers were few and far between.

In 2006 alone, 28.2 million flights carried 3.3 billion passengers (source: OAG). Of these, it’s estimated that X % are traveling on business. This travel is not only time consuming and expensive for companies, it also comes at a huge environmental cost, adding an estimated 1.7 million tons of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere EVERY DAY.

And much of this business travel is purely for meetings – where people gather to talk, listen and watch each other’s reactions in real time. The telephone is not a satisfactory alternative; nor is the current options for videoconferencing.

When set up at short notice, videoconferences are often plagued by blips and blackouts (as there is no simple, automated way of linking different network operators around the world to provide a stable end-to-end connection). The only alternative, as yet, is to spend weeks setting up decent connections between all those involved – hardly a satisfactory option when business needs call for a swift response.

In the world of IPsphere proliferation, however, arranging a virtual conference between people in remote locations will be almost as simple as organizing a voice conference call today.

As a result, companies will be able to reduce their travel budget, and direct these savings towards communications instead. Likewise, with a reduced need for time-consuming travel, employee productivity will rise.

Most importantly, by reducing the need for business-related travel, IPsphere will enable organizations all around the world to reduce their environmental footprint and to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and good corporate citizenship in a very tangible way.

Everyone benefits, and so does the planet.
